Hi everyone, I’m Coby Mc Ginty a staff member at the Student Y- University of Cape Town campus. I am very excited about serving the Lord in student ministry. You see, God called me out of the business world in the States, to serve Him by sharing the Good News to others around the world. He brought me and my family here to UCT in 2007, and now we call Cape Town our home. My wife, Pamela, and I love ministering to students; teaching, mentoring, discipling, and just making our home and family available to them. We have three children; a daughter, Calla, and two sons, Lake and Liam, who really enjoy their extended family at the Y. My greatest passions in ministry are teaching Bible studies, meeting on-on-one with guys, missions and evangelism. I’m currently teaching Bible studies in the Woolsack Res, the Business Commence faculty, and at the Student Y office. A big highlight of my week is helping lead our Friday morning guys IRONMAN Leadership Study. I enjoy meeting with guys one-on-one, to build each other up and encourage each other in our walk with the Lord. Missions and evangelism are also a passion, teaching others how to share the truth and knowledge of Jesus Christ to others on this amazing campus.

I grew up in a religious home, and I would have readily identified myself as a Christian. It was only when I went to university that I was challenged by the gospel of salvation by grace through faith through a Bible study in the letter of Paul to the Romans. I resisted this news for about a year, struggling against it, with the Lord gradually thawing me and bringing me to life in His Son! I went back home to Zimbabwe in 2004, where I practiced law for about a year. There I was deeply impressed by a call to enter word ministry, which led me to George Whitefield College (where I met and married Hilary J) and eventually the Student Y in 2010. It’s great to be back at the Y, where it all began for me!

I am a Capetonian through and through, but not so parochially - I cherish my beloved country and continent, whilst having a keen interest in the global village of which we are a part. It is in this context that I seek to use my gifts and education in service of Christ and His Kingdom. I am a graduate from the University of Stellenbosch (B.Econ), George Whitefield College, Muizenberg (B.Th hons) and Wheaton College, Illinois (MA in Interdisciplinary Studies), but have been associated with the University of Cape Town since 2000 when I started working for the UCT Student YMCA. What a privilege to be working with tomorrows leaders at Africas flagship university! Otherwise, I enjoy socializing with friends, a good cup of coffee, reading quite widely, a broad range of music, off-road adventures on my motorbike and, last but not least, students!!!

I was born and raised in Cape Town. I came to faith around the end of High School. I studied Psychology and Marketing at UCT. It was during my years at University where I started to really grow as a Christian by being exposed to sound Bible teaching. Once I had graduated from UCT I briefly pursued my career. It was then that I had a growing conviction to enter full time ministry, which led me to study theology at George Whitefield College. My passion and heart for student ministry started during my first year at GWC, when I began my practical placement at the Student Y. Ever since then God has blessed me with so many avenues to excise my gifts for Him in student ministry. When I graduated from GWC I served as a ministry trainee for two years at St Luke’s, an evangelical church in the UK. In 2011 I joined the UCT Student Y. It’s a joy and privilege to serve God at UCT for his Glory and the good of his people, on a campus that is very dear to my heart.

I am a native Capetonian who grew up nominally Christian in leafy Pinelands. I finished school at Oude Molen T.H.S. and went on to study Tourism Management at CPUT. Whilst studying I got exposed to the ministry of the Y and eventually made a commitment to follow Jesus on the train, on my way home. I worked in the hospitality industry before the Lord called me into full-time student ministry. I studied at the Bible Institute before working for Campus Crusade For Christ at Wits for five years. Up in J’burg, I studied at JBC (Johannesburg Bible College), apprenticed at CCM (Christ Church Midrand) and did student ministry at MGI (Midrand Graduate Institute) simultaneously, for a year. I ‘came home’ in 2007 to study further at B.I. The circle was completed when I started work at UCT student Y in 2010.
